D. H. Dethe.

Ph.D.

Prof. D. H. Dethe received his Ph. D from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India under the guidance of Prof. A. Srikrishna and went to CSL, ICES Singapore for a postdoctoral fellowship with Professor K.C. Nicolaou & David Chen Yu-Kai. There he accomplished the total synthesis of thiopeptide antibiotics, GE2270A and GE2270T and amithiamycins A, B & C. After a brief stint with AMRI, Prof. Dethe started his independent academic career with National Chemical Laboratory, Pune as Scientist E1 and later joined IIT Kanpur as Assistant professor. Currently he is serving as a full professor at IIT, Kanpur, India. Prof. Dethe’s group is one of the leading research group in the world for the development of new synthetic methods and strategies, and their application in the total synthesis of natural products and biologically important compounds. A major thrust of the current research is the design and invention of new annulation strategies for the synthesis of carbocyclic and heterocyclic systems. They are extensively involved in the development of new reagents and methods for organic synthesis, with an emphasis on asymmetric catalysis. For the work in the area of Organic synthesis, Prof. Dethe is conferred with CSIR young scientist award for year 2011, OPPI young scientist award for year 2011, Young associate of Indian academy of sciences (2011-2014) & AVRA Young Scientist Award 2015. He is a fellow of national Academy of Sciences (FNASc).
